Eye 1.

The more I live life, I’m finding it rather difficult to say “I Can’t”. The limits are becoming more and more imaginary. It’s all about intention. Sure, some factors are out of my control, but needless to say, I have the strength to do it – if I will it so. I can commit to my own goals. I can challenge myself if it means to recognize my own strength. Maybe I’ll fall down really hard, I can almost guarantee the pain that comes with it will be for my gain. The bruise is then the story and indicator as to why I stumbled.  So even if I lose, yeah – Eye 1.

This concept of ‘losing’ has been largely manipulated to mean something humiliating. This projection of shame has been perpetrated through mass media. The ones who lost, and the ones who won. Sure, competition is a good sport and quite a natural course. However, this bullying into feeling less than, because you could not achieve the particular standard given is bogus. We have to respect the effort put into the battle.

However, this bullying into feeling less than, because you could not achieve the particular standard given is bogus. We have to respect the effort put into the battle.

Activity & Pyramids.

There is a host of activity surrounding us on the daily. Noise. Constant movement, some would call this Static. I’ve already created a piece called ‘Harvesting The Static‘ which details just exactly what it means and how we can listen to the distractions.

But what about when noise is so fluent you hardly can analyze it? Take the random things that happen within a day and then start thinking just how supernatural our lives actually are. While not every day is some bingo of surprise, we conquer amazing tasks throughout our daily lives. The stories we develop over time are fascinating to read. If you write in a journal or keep some sort of record of history, you’ll begin to see cycles and algorithms. Things usually start to happen during a certain cycle. Just like in Winter it starts getting cold, and Summer the heat rises. Some psychologists and scientists would assume everything to the tiniest speck, has intention behind it. Not that everything is controlled by something, rather everything seems to have had a constant working relationship with each other.

The details of life, are the framework behind some of the greatest stories ever told. It’s not the Golden Ticket all of the time, sometimes it’s simply the favor of the opportunity. You may have not stumbled on the winning ticket, but you could have made contact with a door – that will guarantee you greater heights.

I think life is always encouraging us to take the stairs. Opening the doors might mean you have to climb more stairs, but think about what you can observe from the top. Even pyramids are intended for you to go higher.

I’m one to believe, in the coyest of moments of life, we can find great reason and strength. The details bring the finest impressions…..But not all life is measured that way. Makes sense. There is a balance.

Not every day have I kept a record of the passing events that occur in a day. I’m not cut from the cloth that can commit to such a pattern. I guess they’re ways to develop it, but I don’t have the ……

Honestly. Not sure how random this is going to be for you – reading this – but as I walk home, writing this post on my phone {9:55 PM} – a bird just ran into my phone. (It’s dark, I’m not sure if the bird was partially blind but I just freaked out! I didn’t drop my phone as it happened but whoa!

See! That’s what I’m saying. Sometimes random things happen in a day, and it’s not that you forget them on purpose but so much happens. I challenge you to write interesting details that occur throughout your day. You’ll be amazed at all of the circuits of dREaM phenomenal you’ll uncover. The moment something strange happens, likely throughout the day they become stronger and more interesting. The past is never banished, but it changes its form and grasp. We end up doing the same thing over and over because cycles are circles.

I am not asking that you focus a considerable amount of detail to your day because that just becomes overwhelming. But if something by chance pops at you, or seems a bit odd/interesting – write it down. You’ll be quite surprised at just how we each have moments of unique experiences. (Hopefully, it’s not a pigeon aiming flight for your phone! :D)

So,

A lot is always going on because you are alive. Life has a way of reminding you. You got a story to tell. Activity is consciousness made aware, by our determined focus to detail.

2 Free Urself At Paisley Park 10.08.15

What made Paisley Park’s Show (10.08.15) quite Historic and Legendary for me were the sudden surprises throughout the night – which is what I aim to convey in this write-up! I talked in brief detail about this (Every Paisley Park Party with Danny L’Amour who is always there to add her joy and experience) You can check out that video by clicking HERE) I always appreciate when anyone watches and can feel as if they are there, by watching us discuss the nights at Paisley!

I was literally cooking Pasta, (Thankfully, it did not burn – I had it on low when I got the call 🙂 So there is a Private Event at Paisley Park, and I can invite some friends? I call my friends and we all scatter to get ready before we head out to Paisley Park.
We’re all in the Luv4OneAnotherRoom – DJ Kiss sets the tone, and it’s now time for The Dance.  This is when all of us dance until something happens. (The Dance continues throughout the night, as even Prince proclaims when he gets on stage DON’T STOP DANCING)
While dancing, we notice some more people show up through the back entrance. It’s Madonna’s crew – who eases into Paisley with a groove ready for the dance floor. At this point, the atmosphere just begins to become electric. Madonna shows up with an applause from the audience, and we can sense this will be a spectacular night!

For Starters, this was the first time since I have seen Prince with a different band other than 3rdEyeGirl. MonoNeon was on the bass guitar, Kirk Johnson was on Drums, Donna Grantis was on guitar, while Prince played guitar, piano, and sang.

The environment is all in unison, waiting in anticipation as Prince layers in with his fingers on the organ. It feels we have been invited to something special.

He starts off with his latest single ‘Stare‘. The bass pumps wild with MonoNeon chopping away with extreme funky precision. He opened up on the Organ, then proceeded on his guitar with rhythmic improvisation. The crowd applauded the moment he picked up his guitar! He knows we are gonna love it. Probably, not as much as he loves playing Guitar himself. He shreds on the song Guitar, telling us “I Love You Baby, but Not like I love my guitar! His chops were so clear and strong, conveying several monuments of emotion. When you thought the solo was over he found something else to bring out of it. After he finished all of his solos, he put the guitar down to head back to the piano, playing Use Me, A cover by Bill Withers – which added spice to the night.

His piano chops were easily rendered and soulfully magnetic. He changed the tempo towards to end so seamlessly in tune ready for the next number. Stratus, which came in – with a rock hard funk stimulation, which charged his band to tap into their space. Everyone was able to get in on the funk and Donna played with a blistering passion. We all had our eyes on her, as she shredded. I remember looking to my right – seeing Madonna just struck at the live performance from the band.

This pumped the set right into Ain’t About 2 Stop – which possessed a darker grunge appeal. The arrangement was similar to the Album’s version but with more space for instrumentation. Donna came back with her guitar wailing while Prince chopped around on his piano.  1,000 X’s & O’s enforced us all to return to a sense of soul and direction. His vocals sounded so clear and his falsetto could not be beaten. By the time, he went into The X’s Face, I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing. I was pleased to hear these songs in a live setting. Mono Neon added to the funk by his unique ability. He had me floored, by his timing and arrangement. He knew just where to come in. The crowd and energy were given so much at such sudden times.I think Prince knew this so he gave us a break for a while so that DJ Kiss could return back us back dancing. I think after a while he noticed our STARE as we were completely focused on the sounds ahead of us. 😀
He returned back with ‘Free Urself‘ by inviting us to dance on stage with him, which was one of the highlights of the night. We all got down and screamed with passion “FREE URSELF” We were so loud and in time, there was a moment where Prince asked “You all got your passports?! I might need to take you all on tour with me! ” Free Urself released so much energy and power out of us, we didn’t know where to go after that!?

What would top that?

The crowd dwindled to about 15 of us, and a lot of people thought he wouldn’t return on stage, but they were wrong.

About 10 minutes later, we hear Sign O’ The Times being looped – while Prince has his ax strapped on him. He chants “ooh Wee Oh, Ohh!” We all follow his direction and then he changes the tempo a bit to go into Work To Do by The Isley Brothers. He improvises with his guitar and wails out for a moment to ‘America’ which plunged us into higher heights. By the end of Sign O’ Times / Work To Do – he finishes off by saying “Thank U All! GOOD NIGHT!

We are all sweating and shocked by the night’s power and are only HUNGRY for food! He fed our souls, our feet, our spirits, and our hearts. LIKE only he could Do – AND NOW I’ve only had the time to process! One of the most extraordinary realities after leaving Paisley Park is the Process that comes afterward. The experience of that place pulls you with such thrill and fascination; while engaging the live moments – every part of you is affected. You are looking, hearing, and overall experiencing what is before you.

In Summary, A Paisley morning is a sunrise! Once, I awaken with the joy of the day, I am given the inspiration to recall the blessings music gives. Live Music, in particular, allows electricity to flow through your body, and you are often brought to spiritual recognition! What an honor and gift it is, to witness creation being tapped into by true artists.

I’m FREED!

The Unstoppable Pull of Lianne La Havas (Varsity Theater Review)

IMG_20151006_183730

Lianne La Havas is as angelic as she appears when you first make contact with her artistic expression.

(STORY TIME WITH JESTER: SKIP THE BOLD LETTERING, IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE SHOW, WITHOUT ME GOING IN ABOUT THE BACK STORY OF MY CONTACT WITH LIANNE LA HAVAS:)

Her show at the Varsity Theater wasn’t the first time I’ve experienced her magic. It was only last year [2014] when she joined the stage with Prince at Essence Festival – performing ‘Sometimes It Snows In April’. I knew after that experience, I would have to see her again. I didn’t expect to become so emotionally charged after that performance, but her guitar strumming and vocal serenade healed me in more ways than one.

What I didn’t expect, was my second experience with her, only less than two weeks after I left The Essence Festival. Prince had invited me to Paisley Park to listen and review his upcoming project Plectrum Electrum. So while nervously preparing for what the night might bring; Unbeknownst to me at the time, she and I actually were in the same hotel, and it was only moments before we left to head over to Paisley – I was told she and I (along w/ her friend) would be in the same car.

She greeted me with joy and said “You Must be Jester! A pleasure to meet you, I’ve heard so many wonderful things about you” Without going too far into a tangent, which is completely possible when I recall that experience – it was absolutely incredible. Her energy level is so down to earth and so real – the music is so good, because of the soul in her blood.

Which leads me into her show last night. Her newest album ‘Blood‘ is rhythmic and fluent. She speaks of going to her roots when making this album ‘Blood’, and the flow of her story is a rushing sensation.

The way Lianne, delicately and intricately plays with her coy yet confident gestures, will pull you in immediately. She started the show off with Green & Gold. A song that charges her recognition of where she comes from.

“I’m looking at a life unfold
Dreaming of the green and gold
Just like the ancient stone
Every sunrise I know
Those eyes you gave to me
That let me see
Where I come from”

Throughout the show, her illumination only begins to grow stronger, and more pulling. She shuffles between songs from her first album ‘Is Your Love Big Enough? Which captures the audience with passion and harmonic vibration.

By the time she gets into “Wonderful,” the room remains quiet yet in full focus to her tone.

“You can trip, flick a switch like a thief
Break the circuit between us
But electricity lingers
In our fingers

Oh you can burn every fuse and refuse
Turn your positive minus
Electricity lingers
In our fingers”
Electricity also lingers through melodic tones. It’s not only her lyrics. It’s her unique ability to wear color, and to sing with melodic conviction. Her songs actually carry a melody, which achieves the best recall in my memory. (I’m guilty of randomly, bursting out her songs in loud yet passionate ways 😀 )

You know she believes what she is saying, and she demonstrates this, by her movement and visual nuance.

She’s stunning from head to toe and I couldn’t be the only one absolutely baptized by her remarkable beauty. She has this unique charm, and it all stems from the love she puts into her music. She’s more than just a visual masterpiece that is more spectacular each and every time. Her music is a testament to her incredible being.
The show in its entirety was exactly fit for her. The Varsity is a beautiful venue, that really serviced her voice and band so incredibly well!

With Lianne, you are guaranteed several experiences.

•Visual Bliss / She’s Stunningly Beautiful

• Instrument Familiarity / She can really play guitar. (AND BASE GUITAR)

• Story Teller / her lyrics is insightful and uniquely whimsical.
