The Luxury Of Funkery

The Luxury Of Funkery

When it’s funk – you can pardon the length it takes to prove the point. In fact among all of the distinct solos and rhythmic gliding, who cares if the cup is running over? I remember getting lost in the experience of jams that seemed to last over 30 minutes. I was taken away by the bass and drums – before the guitar or keys ever made their entrance. My feet could not remain still. My face improvised a series of sonnets and joyful disgust. It was ugly. Almost like the spirit of music personally chose me to endow me with the gift of goosebumps over my body.

If you have experienced similar sensations – you know all too well about the luxury of funk. It’s insane and sometimes just ridiculous because sanity goes out the window. It’s something about a thumping bass and horns that blow your head off. If you ever underestimated the power of funk – the funk ain’t ever too far to remind you of its skill. Most of us just look at the table and whatever happens to be on it. We don ’t pay too much attention to what’s supporting it.The legs and bloodline of what helps the table stand are rarely given detailed attention. If you are lost in the groove, rarely is the focus on the buildup. The journey of sound takes you a wide arrange of places.

I was blessed like many others to experience the grace and normality of funk music. The funk was always in my backyard and whenever I needed a flavor I didn’t know I was missing, it would hit me up with no delay. I never got spoiled by it because U Know… “Music Never Lies, You know It’s true!”I had the pleasure to witness Funk on the regular because I lived in one of the Funk Capitals of the world, Minnesota! An unlikely place to some, unless you knew who Mr. Nelson was. Prince is the embodiment of music and while he played around with various kinds of music – funk is the main ingredient in all of his servings over the years. Rock N Roll for him had to be funky.

Sometimes, life itself can toss us into moments of funk. (No surprise there) An unreasonable desire to screw our faces and shake our heads. This has happened much more often as of late, it’s not hard to understand the flow of why this happens. We all know when we are witnessing a luxury. A remarkable experience is embedded in us and becomes the blueprint of how we value the experience. It’s important to remember the vastness of how many diamonds, emeralds, gold, silver, and jewels exist underneath the core. There are many properties that exist and none of them are mutually exclusive. How we consider worth is often one of heated discourse. The burning need to compare experiences tend to invalidate the individual pieces that embody the whole. (See; Beyoncé vs XYZ)

Nothing is merely created out of the blue. There is an important process and combinative forces that join together. Of course, we don’t think about this. The focus is often on the finished product which is what leads me to my next point about the funk. Funk music takes it time. It might hit you quickly or the bass may be buried in the mix – but it’s there if you pay more attention to the details, it becomes less ambiguous. We should take the time to let each instrument have the ability to solo in a song.

“What my drummer wanna say?
Listen 2 my bass man play
Listen 2 the guitar play”

I live for solos because we all got something to offer. If there’s one thing I can set aside as a valuable experience with Prince, is that he takes you on this journey! He’s shared his life through his music. This is one luxury of FUNK – there are places you did not know you can go. Remember when joining in the journey with Prince – bring your foot pray Cuz it’s gonna be funky!

“Just when U thought it was safe 2 go outside

Eye hit your ass with another funky design

And it’s real good

U thought it wasn’t when U shoulda

Checked yourself before U got another foot in your ass

And now it comes 2 pass another phat shot from the higher class

That’s right, U’re still a rookie, see

Kickin’ it with the grown folks in the wrong key

Honey please, U need 2 find

Somebody that’ll hip U 2 the funky design

Shouts out 2 the rookies, put it in the bank

And let it gain a cent or 2 until it just stanks

And flows, your nose will know

When it’s all wrinkled, then it’s good 2 go

On the fire, I would be a liar

If I didn’t say I wanna take U higher

And hip U 2 the one-eyed bass

Listen 2 the solo while it pleads my case

And just when U thought it was over, it started up again

Kickin’ so loud that it’s sure 2 frighten and win

Gossip again? Ho-hum

Listen 2 my drum

When eye 1st heard ur face

Listen 2 my bass

Time will tell who we r

Listen 2 my guitar”

Reclaiming: They Said

Reclaiming: They Said

Writing a new thing or an old thing – just as long as the flame can keep me warm. The cold flickering of life’s surprises – are we ever safe from the impending frostbite? The danger that is trapped inside of a cage of our reactions. We can choose to engage – or simply turn the page, the text remains the same morning or night. When troubles come to visit you uninvited – I encourage you to invite it in. It may make you cry or what’s worst – really tear you up inside and create a dark black hole.

I promise it’ll be worth it. You might explore things that aren’t so bad to learn. Mellow in the confusion – bake your cake and share it with someone you love. The heat is on and will soon burn into nothing but smoke. Don’t regret your time – like they say “Reclaim it”. It’s just a couple of long weeks here on earth. Some are spent wisely while others are forgotten like last weeks meal. Remember how good it was then? How much you savored the seasonings paired perfectly with a flask of wine? It was delicious and so is the memory of it – but that’s all it is now.

A forgotten moment stored only by a fraction of your senses. It’s much more – like a light to your mind is a pathway to your desires. When all is said and done – why not run? There’ll be a time you won’t be able to. When you keep on living things just get out of place.

Joints become rusty, pain becomes more practiced. “Use what you got and spend what isn’t yours” that’s what they say. That’s what ends up happening anyway, we are on borrowed tools and land. Truth be told mostly stolen – justice can’t prevail until we acknowledge this. Life is a precious commodity to some but an interesting journey to some. Living and resting. “Take what you can but always remember to leave what no longer suits you.” That’s what they said.

They have said a lot and it doesn’t all have to be in vain or to fall on deaf ears. If we know what they said – then we can live off what it may mean for now. A lot of what is said is based off myths that were created to control behaviors. This isn’t to say we can’t function behind these myths and reach some higher ground. Before you reclaim it – keep in mind some of what has been said was at a different time. The importance of context mustn’t lose its meaning due to how edgy whatever you’re claiming may feel. For example: If you wanna reclaim a concept that has been used to manipulate others – that’s gonna come with various consequences. It’s always better to be aware of the timing of such reclaims!

At any rate: Reclaim what’s yours to use for the service to others. As Maxine says it honestly with no feelings or resolve. It ain’t about offending but knowing what you can do. People have been saying a lot of things since time immortal – why not take back on what was done and remix it to your liking? All the while being aware of origin.

Interrogate The ‘Why’

Interrogate The ‘Why’

1.jpeg

  1. “I can’t speak for anyone else, but I either know or I don’t know.”
  2. “It is only by grace through faith that we are saved. It is sort of like saying can you be saved if someone is reaching down the grab you from a sinking ship, but you smack the hand, then no you can’t be saved cause you are rejecting what can save you.”
  3. You can have faith and be lost too. In our mindset, we know where we gonna go but in reality, things will throw us off and we can get lost for a little IF we pay attention to that escape that is prepared for us to exit to that right path. So either way, both sides can get lost with or without faith. We just need to wake up and pay attention.”
  4. “Only in case one is religious.”
  5.  “If you’re sincere.”
  6. Belief = Faith Faith=Belief.
  7. “You can have all the faith in the world and still the one doing the saving can still choose to say no.”2.jpeg
  8. I Like To Believe That All Roads Lead Home.”
  9.  “If you ask from religious folks their answer is yes.”
  10. “All forks in the roads lead to a destination.”
  11. “Lost or found – faith has little to nothing to do with it.”
  12. “Sometimes being lost is better than being found rather than being taken back to a house that isn’t a home.”
  13. “Yes, because if you don’t keep the faith – you are already lost, but what’s wrong with being lost?”
  14. “Faith is neither here or there – it’s a word to describe hope which we all have to some extent. Not having this, doesn’t make you anymore at ‘home’ than you being lost until you get to your destination.”3.jpeg
  15. “Faith is a worthy substitute. Our “gut feeling” comes from nowhere else but the highest. Some people call it common sense. Some people call it instinct. If people ask for evidence of proof, I believe that your mind and feelings are sufficient enough.”
  16. “Faith is born of evidence given in mysterious forms.”
  17. With me, I can see the evidence unfolding but it’s not ready to give birth yet. But my faith is like it has to be there, it just has to be there, oh it’s going to be there, heck yeah it’s there!!! BAM there it is after the fact. It scares me and then I’m reminded of Him that I asked and my faith was just strong to break those walls down!
  18. Do I believe in God? Heaven and Hell? Evidence and proof of a feeling, proof of our own human minds. What is right and wrong? Judgements! Create feelings! Hate is a choice. We must unlearn! I will say this for the record. I have been told I am going to Hell because of my demonic queer, lifestyle. So ungodly! This is what I tell the people who tell me this.. To be honest, I would be happy and grateful to go to Hell. Finally surrounded by my LGBTQ family, it would be one big happy LGBTQ dance party. I would be much safer in hell, then I am, here, on earth. The reality I live, is that people want me dead, because of religion, and religious beliefs, is that being Christian? I thought that was 1 of the ten commandments,”thou shall not kill?” Oh but you’re not actually taking a gun and pulling the trigger, but you are! You are separating yourself individually and now as a collective whole with judgments, right and wrong, those bullets are silent and yet very deadly… and Yes there are real bullets too. People actually die in the LGBTQ community. Someone in my LGBT family was murdered, found dead, two weeks ago, this exists people. Check your faith people – what you believe.
  19. If it’s a belief, it’s not evident.
  20. I think the very definition of faith is to believe without evidence. If someone tells me that there’s money growing on the tree in their yard, I’m going to want evidence before I turn up with my basket and start picking! But faith is almost a form of esoteric evidence, where you know something is true, even though you don’t have the evidence required to prove it to someone else. Luckily, we don’t have to, which is why faith is usually either a very personal, or else community-focused thing.
I’m genuinely puzzled by religions that try to convert people because they literally have no evidence to show, so they are trying to somehow generate faith in another’s heart, and that’s like trying to make a rainbow. You can’t make a rainbow, only God (or the Universe/alternative higher power/science) can do that, and it typically needs a particular set of circumstances in the lead up to it.
In general (although there are exceptions), the bigger the storm, the brighter the rainbow. Similarly, the bigger the crisis, the brighter faith shines in someone’s heart when it finally arrives (and it probably doesn’t ring the doorbell!)
  21. Not having evidence and believing is Faith.

Thank you to everyone who participated so far! You may or may not find your answer here but this series will continue on until July. My goal in providing these answers are not to dissect the categories of where these answers stem from. Philosophy and opinions share the same veins and the goal here is to expose the blood that gets us going. Although, we are not always going. Standing still in the middle of our quest – while we interrogate the ‘WHY’. What leads us to these various paths? The more we ask – we get a little bit closer.

Statistical Torture

Statistical Torture

“If you torture data enough, it will confess to anything you like.”

– Ronald Coase

It’s too hot. It’s too cold. The world is beautiful. The world is ugly.

All of these statements can simultaneously be true. They don’t have to cancel each other out.

Let’s say a man said something sexist. (Which happens a lot, unfortunately) In response to this sexist comment – a white woman said something racist to counter what he said. This doesn’t cancel out each statement being problematic. We tend to fight over what’s worst when all the apples can be spoiled. What’s the point in picking a side when every side has an element that can be proved and corrected?

“We are like the animals on Noah’s Ark arguing about whose shit stinks more, with the boat being the only thing keeping us from certain extinction. If it floats, it is mine as good as yours. “

– Sanada Maitreya

Whenever you look at stats and follow them – it’s easy to torture the hell out of them as Ronald eloquently put it.

Picking sides. Being one tracked minded. All of these definitions to define where we stand can be very isolating. It’s best, to be careful so that we’re not completely self-absorbed in our own evaluations in how we see the world. Have you ever found yourself pushing the limits just to see if it’ll break?

It starts with knowing there’s a limit and yet still seeing how far you can go. Adrenaline is the main reason for this nonsensical pushing and pulling. It’s thrilling and surprises come very rarely but the mere chance is enough to keep one going. Humans often get a kick out of torturing what is in front of them. Limit pushing. I know I’m not the only one who’s seen people doing dumb shit for the sake of it. Most seem to do it for attention while others seem to do it just to bend the statistics.

As a child, it was always my goal to make it to the Guinness World Records. I wanted to break a record! I figured, their so many records to choose from, I felt this would be an easy feat. Maybe I’d hop on a pogo stick for hours at a time (I was pretty good at it) Notwithstanding the many numbers of people trying to do the same thing and the amount of determination needed to make this happen, safe to say my desire quickly dwindled. I looked at the numbers and felt crushed by the likelihood and probability.

How probable is it that we’ll get our shit together before looking for revenge? When someone crosses us are we looking for justice just the same?

We ought to be careful how we look at data otherwise we’d arrive at various conclusions. We’re already at the age of a sort of ‘post-truth’ but the numbers stay the same if we know what we’re looking at.

So next time someone wants to read to you a stat about XYZ – remember anything can be tortured. Including numbers, ain’t that surprising tho is it? 😀

The Big But (Discover Naunce)

The Big But (Discover Naunce)

We all hear it more often than not. The BIG BUTT!! It comes in around the corner with a fancy strut. The more someone keeps talking with this and that, there it goes. BUTT!

The negation because there’s obviously something we have not considered. The Butt comes in tight/loose jeans, yoga pants, long or short skirts which allows the wind to come to reveal the negation – you can’t always be mad at that, ain’t nothing to be mad at.

That’s what people pray for sometimes. A different approach which you couldn’t see in the far distance.

We can’t always escape it, in fact escaping it just means you weren’t willing to listen. There’s a lesson hidden in the ‘Also’. Even ‘But’ can bring a fresh perspective. The power of the mind allows a constant refresh.

Our abilities to think for ourselves is a vital element in our evolutionary development. Thinking on our own terms all while also acknowledging the space and opinions of others. Our minds are fascinating discoveries to fantasy and real stuff. How are we able to separate and distinguish the two?

There’s also the blurred middle where things can take a unique form and transcend fantasy and reality.

I like to call this middle ‘The Discovery.’ In it – we’re searching endlessly. From the top or at the bottom. The more you keep searching and driving – the destination becomes less important. The discovery is a loop that changes beats through rhythmic chords.

The middle is seen as discovering why the ‘But’ was brought up in the first place. You can take every moment to learn from the glance of ‘but’ – although at times we can benefit from the silence of mystery.

I was once told solid advice from a colleague: “Consider removing the ‘Butt’ // when it shows up as a big ass negation that stands in the way of everything that precedes it. “But” can be exclusive and isolating “And” is more inclusive and welcoming.

You can’t consider the options when you are far too quick to remove the possibility by affording the impossible by the ‘butt strut’. This is true.

There’s a lot to know which can be discovered by us saying nothing at all. Unpacking nuance is an abrasive but necessary adventure, we must be willing to enter into. There’s a lot that we miss because we forget how much is nuanced. To this point, But can work to our advantage; when we know how to use it.

The Qualified Sum

The Qualified Sum

If you’re gonna play: Rock, Paper, Scissors with me – look directly into my eyes. Only look down when it’s time to decide who won. You’re cheating if you look at the hands the whole time, Don’t debate me – on this! 😀

Games like Rock, Paper, Scissors and Tic Tac Toe (X’s and O’s) are based on specific patterns. If you learn them, you’ll be able to win depending on if your opponent makes a mistake. Worst case scenario is that there would be a tie with no winners or losers. Yay!

I find games like this fun because with enough repetition – your subconscious catches on to how the player makes their move. We don’t always win at this but if you aren’t aware of the algorithm – you’ll find yourself losing more and more. This doesn’t always favor your ego, especially if you’re used to winning.

img_6314

Some of us are so bitter when it comes to failing we revise history to our advantage. *coughs – white people* It makes absolutely no sense to do this. It just makes you a sore loser. White Supremacists, Neo-Nazis, and Confederate loving Americans are PRIME at doing this. They don’t wanna look at history for what it is but rather what they want to make out of it.

Times like now are interesting because they force us to examine the ways we cheat at excusing our behavior. We’re afraid of owning up to some of our own biases if they mean proving us wrong.

Ever caught yourself in a: “NOT ALL OF US” KIND OF MOMENT?

It should be painfully obvious that ‘NOT ALL ‘ is dumped in when talking about a group of people. I’ve been seeing a lot of statements like #MenAreTrash – previously, I would get on the defense whenever I’d hear a generality like that because ‘HEY NOT ALL MEN ARE TRASH’.

Now, I knew I had trash ways as a man and I didn’t want to look at them because ‘We all fall short’ but this isn’t the way to go about it. If you don’t fit in the scenario than keep it moving.

Some are qualified in the variables made – if you don’t fit the shoe, don’t even try to wear it. Our egos can be big and to check ourselves is the easiest thing we can do if our feelings start running amuck.

In short: We qualify which moves we make on the board. The best we can aim for is to even out. We don’t gotta get mad if it ain’t about us. One of the best things I learned from my grandmother is “Everything ain’t about you and trust me – that’s a good thing!.”

ECHOES IN THE NIGHT

ECHOES IN THE NIGHT

I’m realizing how vague I can be when it comes to what I see and how my perception frames reality around me. I much rather stoke symbolism and innuendo in the cut.

However, I understand the importance of nuance – which is why my latest project ‘The Living Things (7.28.17) will be direct and personal. I’m sharing thoughts I haven’t really revealed before.

One of the most personal and vulnerable pieces on the project is called ‘Echoes In The Night‘ which describes some of my midnight nightmares. I remember waking up from the screaming various trust anchors: Jesus, The Holy Spirit, etc and this was one of the very first indications of my self-examination.

I’ve always been a curious child and questioning the existence of G-d as it was explained in the Bible wasn’t always on my agenda until recently. I was a firm believer in the way of The Word. I held onto it as it fastened my worldview but as all things in life – you grow.

Echoes in The Night is a reminder that even in sound – I can hear myself and get to the reason why.

(XYZ) Correlation & Causation

(XYZ) Correlation & Causation

You cannot really prove anything. You can only provide evidence or disprove something. What’s considered a fact is only a collection of shreds of evidence that you affirm – which hasn’t been disproved as of yet. It’s important to highlight the word (YET) Cuz when enough time passes – it’ll be evident that what was is no more. The power of yet keeps coming and going and will always be the ultimate decision maker.

The media helps at this – it brings us a bit closer to what’s going on.

People can’t help but get mad when things don’t go how they expected. I consider myself a word scientist. I’m always dissecting and observing the way sentences are heard and the way they are processed in the mind. If you could know before things went south, you’d consider yourself ‘Warned’. For years people around the world have considered this to be ‘Prophecy’ – some human in the wilderness screaming out “Trouble is coming – get Yo house in order” most people wouldn’t consider this person as anything other than crazy.

I remember growing up – there was a lady who lived on the corner of our street who we nicknamed “The Junk-lady house” understandably so because her house was filled with weeds and she has several cats gathered around her house. I remember once I had to confront her because a piece of mail came to our house instead of her house. No one in my family wanted to send it over but me being the curious one decided to take the challenge. I remember running up to her door to only knock on her door very loudly. I was nervous because I felt something would come out and bite me! After about 5 seconds I decided to run away only leaving the package on the doorstep. She eventually opened the door and said why are you running away? Come in – I promise nothing will come to get you.

Turns out, she was a sweet woman named ‘Ookie’ she said the best way to remember her was her name was like a cookie – but without the C in front of it. She always would cut people’s grass for free and offer her services. Under one condition – you had to hear her talk about environmental causes. That’s all she talked about. How the planet is going to waste because we cut down too many trees which give us energy.

Last time I heard anything from her was while watching ‘Hoarders’ she was in this episode and I nearly freaked out because I remembered her. At any rate – she had a point. The world was suffering but everyone around the world only knew her as the crazy woman who had a junky house.

Nonetheless, we are warned. Whether we listen to this or not – doesn’t change the fact people gonna complain about not being prepared enough.

So many people arrive in various peculiar beliefs because they piece together things based on how it correlates with something else.

However, Let it be known:

Correlation does not show causation.

This is one of the number one things people get wrong over and over.

“Studies show that MRI scans of people who watch porn display HEAVY BRAIN DAMAGE, see this means, porn damages your brain!”

“Increases in snowballs being sold in the summer are strongly correlated with drowning accidents. See, Jesse you better stop eating snow cones or you risk drowning.

Correlation does not result in direct causation.

This is also a time where we focus so much on what is agreed. You can have a conversation filled with extreme passion and once a point has been made someone at the end of it will sometimes say:

“Well, I don’t agree”

Well, I don’t make statements to validate who’s in my amen corner. Inform me of your Y’s in contrast to my X’s. It’s cool.

We have this absurd obsession with getting people to agree with our said beliefs.

I wrote about this before on Facebook but I’ll say it again here:

In psychology, there’s a concept called “confirmation bias,” where people only accept evidence of things that already confirm what they believe. Researchers have been studying this for years and I can testify as of late, how real that shit is. Have you ever factored in what makes you believe what you validated for years? The more you check yourself on EVERYTHING (Yes, it’s a process but well worth it – There’s no graduation involved) you’ll begin to pull at your own line of questioning. A lot of this will be heartbreaking but hilariously enlightening.

In the absence of evidence from proponents of existence, there is exactly zero reason to subscribe to an implausible belief for which its proponents offer exactly zero valid support.

Proximity is close enough to the truth.

The truth of an experience, the truth of right around the corner, the truth cuz it might just happen to me.

How many times have you heard that? “It COULD HAVE BEEN ME!” Well,  maybe if the variations were the same but come on. 😛

Be aware of how you counter this illusion.

Next time (XYZ) which is to assume the same variables at play now will happen again. Well, it won’t. Probability says – the results that occurred now will occur again but that’s likely not to happen.

We often like to think, if we were to make one minor change in our direction then the whole outcome will be differently. This is true to a degree, but slight changes are just as monumental as BIG changes. You can’t run out of lengths when widths are maximized.

This reminds me of the scene from ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’

“When the package was wrapped, the woman, who was back in the cab, was blocked by a delivery truck, all the while Daisy was gettin’ dressed. The delivery truck pulled away and the taxi was able to move, while Daisy, last to be dressed, waited for one of her friends, who had broken a shoelace. While the taxi was stopped, waitin’ for a traffic light, Daisy and her friend came out the back of the theater. And if only one thing had happened differently; if that shoelace hadn’t broken; or that delivery truck had moved moments earlier; or that package had been wrapped and ready, because the girl hadn’t broken up with her boyfriend; or that man had set his alarm and got up five minutes later; or that taxi driver hadn’t stopped for a cup of coffee; or that woman had remembered her coat, and got into an earlier cab, Daisy and her friend would’ve crossed the street, and the taxi would’ve driven by.”

Just those subtle changes make a whole lot of difference. However – it’s been made. It happened in the way it did – if only we could think of what we do before we do it – if math could be reversed?

7.21.16

7.21.16

It’s been 3 months and the magic is still replayed in my mind. The life and legacy of Prince is everlasting. Always bouncing through the music and alive through the melody. With each song and rhythm of funk – I still feel the magic. He’s forever embedded in the countless transformations left in every note of his sound. I still miss the constant mystery. The whole aura that multiples when you literally have no idea what can come next. The “You Never Know What Might Happen” The random invites to a party.

He may perform or he might just be teasing to keep us guessing. The new releases of music. (Even more so The Paisley Park Listening Sessions) The conversations that made everyone in the room silent. Prince was more than a musician who lived in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Anyone who followed along the ride was guaranteed a new experience. He encouraged us to surrender your expectations. He talked in a unique way – using words, letters, numbers, colors, and even symbols to convey his meaning. (Who else do you know – could be recognized by a symbol?)

PP11.18 (1).jpg

If you listened to the sound at all – you know! Damn. This is not only fun but life changing. He had us so hooked – one could not plan to do anything on Friday or Saturday because those days likely something may happen!

We began to count on a PPAD by studying the moon. Also the correlation between the number 7. He spoiled us and started to actually remind us when another party was near when the moon was either full or new. Sometimes – the party’s just happened privately and you needed the invite. 😀

I’m taking, this time, to reflect and to be thankful again to be apart of the experience. I’m pretty proud and thankful that it happened while I was alive. To step into that space. The feel of his studios. The smell of anticipation.

Conducting the studio tours at Paisley Park was an unforgettable experience. I remember going on one for the first time in September and was blessed by the opportunity to see real life history in each of his studios. Joshua Welton gave an amazing detailed breakdown of the studios while also giving us an exclusive listen to HitNRun Phase One. After finishing the tour – Kirk told me “Prince wants you to do the tours – will you be ready tomorrow?”

Wait. What. Pause.

Tomorrow?

He assured me I got the gig and this shouldn’t come as a surprise because they had prepared me for this all along.

I was sent bullet points on to what to say and it became a usual gig each time Prince opened up the doors at Paisley. What a blessing. Surprises were constant and it always exceeded the last experience.
I remember one distinct time a couple of friends and myself was invited to Paisley Park for a music video for Judith Hill. A lot of us showed up but we couldn’t be at Paisley until I was told when to come in. We met up at Houlihan’s for what felt like hours – just waiting for confirmation. I got the call only to be told it was canceled – and while we were all a bit upset we laughed and just shared Prince stories all throughout the night. A couple of the faithful ones were called ‘The True Blues” because we were always truly there. Always there to support and show our love for everyone involved in the Paisley experience.

Another time I got a call that a party was happening at Paisley Park. A couple of friends were invited and while Prince didn’t show up – Hannah’s and Josh’s (3EG) family were there and we danced with them and were invited to the kitchen to eat some food. They called this event a ‘Family Affair” we were delighted to be there. I told Kirk – Since we are family and all “Where is the aluminum foil?” Haha! He got a kick out of that – they didn’t have any foul but plenty of cups for us take with us! (Some of the best food I’ve ever tasted too!)

DinnerATPaisleyFamily Affair (1).jpg
We were always down for him regardless of what did or didn’t happen.

It wasn’t that long ago – and while seeing Prince always felt like a dream or some kind of distant ethereal dimension experience. I still miss him around and miss the humor and engulfing parade. I miss him on Twitter and his clever wit. His T.A.D. (Tweet and Delete) He’s left me with so many life-changing memories and I’ll never forget. Thankful for the countless memories and great friends that were brought forth. “So much work to do…Everywhere. That’s what this is about. The Work. PT. Everlasting Now.

There Will Never Be Another Like Him – or like you. So let’s add more colors, numbers, symbols, and anything else to your own story – so we can do the work and remind people luv4oneanother is the only way.
